The Crime Scene Investigation Skills Certificate Program prepares students for entry-level employment as a crime scene investigator or field evidence technician in the law enforcement field. The program requires the completion of 17 units with a minimum grade point average of 3.00 or better for courses offered in the certificate program.

The cost is $46 per unit. Non-resident tuition: $258 per unit PLUS enrollment fees (Non-Resident Tuition includes $19.00 Capital Outlay fee per Ed Code 76141).

WHAT IS THE JOB OUTLOOK?
Employment of forensic science technicians is projected to grow 17 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. However, because it is a small occupation, the fast growth will result in only about 2,600 new jobs over the 10-year period.
State and local governments are expected to hire additional forensic science technicians to process their high case loads. Additionally, scientific and technological advances are expected to increase the availability, reliability, and usefulness of objective forensic information used as evidence in trials. As a result, forensic science technicians will be able to provide even greater value than before, and more forensic science technicians will be needed to provide timely forensics information to law enforcement agencies and courts.
