Build Your Future in Pest Management

The Pest Management program is intended for those who wish to pursue a career in pest control for hire. Courses range from entomology, plant pathology, and integrated pest management to plant identification and landscape management. Students will assess the impact that pests and control measures have on the environment and agricultural products.  In order to apply pesticides for hire, an employer must have personnel licensed by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. This program provides the broad-based background to pass the various certification examinations required by the state. There are hundreds of employers in Orange County who employ holders of the Pest Control Advisor’s License, Qualified Applicator’s License and Qualified Applicator’s Certificate. This certificate program prepares students to take these examinations, and maintain their licenses with continuing education hours.

WHAT IS THE JOB OUTLOOK?

Employment of farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural managers is projected to show little or no change from 2016 to 2026. Over the past several decades, the efficiencies of large-scale crop production have led to the consolidation of acreage under fewer, but larger, farms. As farms become larger, they are able to invest more in productivity-enhancing technologies, reinforcing this effect.

Despite steady demand for agricultural products, many small farms operate with slim profit margins and are vulnerable to poor market conditions. As in the past, operators of smaller farms will likely continue to exit the business over the next decade.

WHAT IS THE JOB OUTLOOK IN CALIFORNIA?

Employment of pest control workers is projected to grow 8 percent from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the average for all occupations.

Some people may choose to control pests themselves rather than pay for professional pest control services. However, the growing number of invasive species, such as stink bugs, may increase demand for pest control services.

Fullerton College is one of the greatest

“Fullerton College is one of the greatest options, not only in Southern California, but I think in all of California. When I came here, it was all about shaping me into being a better artist and to refine that skill set so that I could actually go into the work industry.”

Character Artist at MGA Entertainment

“I’ve recently become a Character Artist at MGA Entertainment and I owe it all to the Digital Arts CTE program at Fullerton College. Every single class I took helped me build a portfolio that was competitive enough to land me a job where all of my coworkers come from private colleges, and I think that’s pretty cool. Not only are the classes very useful but the professors that teach them are as well. They have endless amounts of knowledge and experience in their fields and are super eager to help their students. I am very proud and grateful to have been a part of the CTE program and I can’t wait to see where I go in the future thanks to Fullerton College.”
