PROGRAMMING

Build Your Future in Programming

The Programming Certificate is designed to prepare students for an entry-level job in the programming field. Students receive a grounding in a breadth of current programming languages and may select electives focusing on web
programming, Java and mobile applications programming, database management or game programming. Computer programmers write and test code that allows computer applications and software programs to function properly. They turn the program designs created by software developers and engineers into instructions that a computer can follow. In addition, programmers test newly created applications and programs to ensure that they produce the expected results. If they do not work correctly, computer programmers check the code for mistakes and fix them.

Upon completion of the program students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in one or more common business software programs.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of common computer technology related terms.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be effective communicators using common business communication tools.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of common Internet related technologies and software.

WHAT IS THE JOB OUTLOOK IN CALIFORNIA?

Employment of computer programmers is projected to decline 7 percent from 2016 to 2026. Computer programming can be done from anywhere in the world, so companies sometimes hire programmers in countries where wages are lower. This ongoing trend is projected to limit employment growth for computer programmers in the United States. However, the high costs associated with managing projects given to overseas programmers sometimes offsets the savings from the lower wages, causing some companies to bring back or keep programming jobs in the United States.

Fullerton College is one of the greatest

“Fullerton College is one of the greatest options, not only in Southern California, but I think in all of California. When I came here, it was all about shaping me into being a better artist and to refine that skill set so that I could actually go into the work industry.”

Character Artist at MGA Entertainment

“I’ve recently become a Character Artist at MGA Entertainment and I owe it all to the Digital Arts CTE program at Fullerton College. Every single class I took helped me build a portfolio that was competitive enough to land me a job where all of my coworkers come from private colleges, and I think that’s pretty cool. Not only are the classes very useful but the professors that teach them are as well. They have endless amounts of knowledge and experience in their fields and are super eager to help their students. I am very proud and grateful to have been a part of the CTE program and I can’t wait to see where I go in the future thanks to Fullerton College.”
